Well, I read it in one night, so I'd say I couldn't put it down. I'd give this story a 4.5 star review but there isn't one. What a delight to read a clean sweet love story without being preachy. Yes there is Christian spiritual tones to the story but it isn't in your face. Don't like it when authors get preachy and overload a story with Bible verses. It takes away from the story when they do this. Originally I'd give this a 4 star but I just changed it to 5 due to this point. Jennifer was able to tell a good story without getting religion in your face. The heroine is a very sweet naive young orphan who despite having lost both (?) parents still chooses to looks at life on the bright side and maintain a cheerful disposition. The story begins with Cara losing her job as a governess due to an accident which happened to her charge. She finds herself in London hoping to connect with her sister only to discover her sister has married and left the country to go on her honeymoon. Unsure where to go she meets a man who speaks to her soul, another artist, Langham Burke. Langham is very carefree and generous and takes Cara under his wings. All changes when Cara meets Langham brother Henry, the earl and his ward Amelia. One can only say it was love at first sight . The story progresses from here . One thing to share without revealing or spoiling too much of the story would be... the characters prove the saying about making assumptions. So many heartaches would be non existent or lessened if communication in families occurred vs. assuming the worst of them. This is true for both the hero and the heroine. If you're looking for a good read for yourself or for a teenager the I would recommend this story. Enjoy reading.... yes I did purchase this book.
Ms. Delamere has once again captured me with her beautiful writing style and beloved characters. I love the way she pulls you to the heart of the story instantly when you open the book. Her books always make me smile and reflect on the story long after I close the book. While this is book 3 in the London Beginnings series, it’s certainly easily read as a stand alone.I absolutely adored Henry and Cara’s characters. They were chiseled beautifully and really came to life within the story. I loved watching Cara come to terms with the secrets of the Burke family and seeing how she truly felt, and followed her heart’s passion. Henry was a bold, handsome character and I loved how he was added into the story. Beautiful! And the orphanage was a wonderful addition to the story. I loved seeing how Ms. Delamere wove that in! Not only is this story faith-filled, it’s a story that will leave you thinking about your own life story, leave you smiling for the amazing characters that are now family, and leave you wanting more from this magnificently talented author. If you are looking for a 4 star, heart-warming, faithful story blended with just the right amount of sweet romance and historic details, then look no further than this novel by Ms. Delamere. The Artful Match is the third book in the London Beginnings series, and it does not disappoint one bit as a satisfying, heartwarming conclusion. The Victorian world that Delamere so deftly presents is so beautiful, so intriguing, so rich. There are so many fascinating angles of history that are explored in this book. I have come to expect this high-quality research from Delamere. It makes reading each story of hers a delight, and The Artful Match is no exception. This time around we step into the lives of artists in London in 1881, as well as that of upper-class nobility.There are many things that make this book well worth your time (besides the history). One, the characters will just grab your heart. Each one is so vivid and dynamic, with their distinct personalities. I can almost guess their MBTI type! The characters mature and grow over the course of the story. Their interactions are just so fun, and the dialogue is both realistic and entertaining. Two, this love story was unique in that there is no annoying drama about “Does he/she love me?†but rather the romance flows smoothly and realistically. It is sweet and simple. Three, the excellent writing! Wow, I can just enjoy Delamere’s style forever. She definitely has a voice well-suited to historical fiction, and it is so well-edited. Four, the faith aspect was gentle but present. I like a lot of faith content, so for me it was little on the lighter side in terms of that, but there were many mentions of prayer and God working in the character’s lives.Overall, an excellent work of historical fiction. I would definitely read it again!Thank you to Bethany House Publishers for providing me with a copy. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed The Artful Match, the conclusion of the London Beginnings series. This book can be read as a stand alone story, but it's so much more fun to read them in the order they were written. I love Jennifer Delamere's writing style and I really enjoyed Cara's story. Cara & her sisters Rosalyn and Julia grew up in a George Mueller's Orphanage in England. This is why I love historical fiction. George Mueller was a real person who built an orphanage by prayer. God did provide, and more than 10,000 children lived in the orphanage over the years after their mother died.. Each book in the series focuses on one of the sisters and her journey from orphanage to adulthood, as well as the mystery of what happened to their father who disappeared when they were young. I loved this series. Highly recommend!
The Artful Match, the third book in the London Beginnings series by Jennifer Delamere, is a delightful return to Victorian England. The story surrounds the youngest sister, Cara, as she seeks to establish a new life for herself in London. The characters came alive so vividly that I became entranced with the unexpected and appreciated twists and turns that brought Cara's story together. I highly recommend The Artful Match to anyone who loves to fall in love with love and history!
