I am really impressed with this book. It provides a good amount of information about different tribes. It's geared towards young children (elementary age) wothout talking down to them or over-simplifying language or content. The illustrations are beautiful and informative. My 7 year old loves this book, as well as my 4 year old.
This book contains a lot of good basic information about various Native American tribes. It certainly helps kids understand that Native American cultures are diverse. There were several opportunities for discussion like, "How would you like to do X?" or "Imagine if we lived like Y." I was somewhat disappointed in the pictures, which are mostly in shades of brown. The subjects of the pictures, like buffalo hunting or a potlatch are really interesting, and the pictures do provide a lot of detail, but they just aren't that much fun to look at. I do recommend this book but I will have to choose to read it at a time when my kids are calm and focused (ha!) because I don't think it will grab their attention away from other stuff the way some books do.
A very good primer on Native American tribes. There are some easy hand signs at the end of the book that is fun for beginners learning Native American lore. Simple but nice illustrations hold children's attention.Since I have lived all over the US and on 2 reservation lands with my family when I was growing up, I wanted my young grandchildren in NJ to learn that part of their heritage. I am compiling memories and an age appropriate library to share on their visits to Nana!
This is a decent book but a bit long-winded in information. While it has great and interesting information, it can lose interest for a child depending on age because of the detailed words. My son is 6yrs old and found some of the pages interesting and easy to follow and some where I thought he was drifting while we read together.
this is a good book if you are just reviewing or need an extra for an american indian review. They give a little info on each group.
This book is an excellent study of the different American Indian tribes. It shows how the different bands lived in different parts of the United States and Canada. This book is also high art. It is a great gift for any child.
This book is great! The illustrations look like paintings. The map shows you where these tribes were located in the USA territory. The book gives you short to the point information about daily living and their life-styles.
This book is so fun and educational. My daughter is almost 6. It's too much to read the book as a whole all at once but we like to take 1 tribe at a time and learn about each tribe.
