The star is not for the content of the book but for the fact that I paid more than the price the book cost when it was originally published. I must not have noticed when I purchased it that it was a 2002 book. It was in good condition but why I had to pay more than the book had originally cost really perplexes me and I am not happy about that. This book is still in publication and there are newer versions which included information on CDs that were not provided with my older version yet I still paid as much if not more than for the newer books
I bought a used copy of the book and loved the format. I am in my third week of Spanish at the Cultural Center and enjoying it very mush. On a side note, the book was in "perfect condition" but when it arrived the first ten pages had been torn out (you couldn't hardly tell by looking) The man on the phone said, "Oh, I am so sorry sorry to hear that, I'll credit your card with the amount you paid." When I went to class, some one else was nice enough to copy the missing pages for me. I an a senior citizen age 76 and really feel blessed. Fran Petrow
Cool book, I wish it was really separated what is that to do for 10 min today, tomorrow and so on.. I just have to choose where to stop, so I dont actually spend only 10 min, and skip many days... I was looking for something that is kind of separated what is that to do every day. if it a matter of myself separating what to do, then, ANY book can be 10 min a day.
I have used Mrs. Kershul's books on Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, and French. They all have lovely, appropriate-to-the-culture artwork, ready-to-go flashcards, stickers with the foreign words for putting on various objects around the house, exercises, explanations, and more. This book is great for someone who is going to a Spanish-speaking country. The content can equip a student with decent restaurant Spanish, language to use at the hotel, and so on. It is not an in-depth study of grammar, but it can be a fine springboard to more advanced studies. A strong advantage of the book is pronunciation guides. Take the plunge, learn some Spanish, use it where you live, and maybe do some traveling!
Good for anyone needing a crash course before vacationing in a Spanish-speaking country, but not for serious students. It focuses on situations most frequently needed by tourists: Shopping, ordering in a restaurant, asking for directions, using the phone, etc. Includes a small Spanish/English dictionary, a crib sheet of food translations for use in restaurants, and flash cards. I found the flash cards especially helpful and used them as a model for more extensive Spanish instruction.
The book is fine but it says on the cover "Digital Download included...". Well it is if you have a Mac or PC computer. I wanted it for my tablet (Samsung running android) since I don't carry my PC around with me, and appear to be out of luck. Technically they are correct, but considering the prevalence of non mac/pc devices that one is likely to use this with... the "download included" is deceptive in my opinion.
Easy to use. Lot's of reinforcement of the vocabulary you are building on, as well as sentences you might need to use. This was a supplement to an adult education class. We found it to be the perfect amount of information for adults who hadn't been back to a class structure in lots of years. We would recommend it, especially if you want to take it seriously. With the flash cards, stickers to place all over the house, etc., you are bound to learn some Spanish on the other end. We enjoyed it!
